While most students took part in Summer Tournament on March 23, those that stayed behind in Room 12 created racing machines out of old fruit and vegetables.
All vehicles ended up in the compost but before that there was some intense creating and racing down the ramp by the top courts.
The names for the mobiles included Skux mobile, Fantastic Fruit Car, Death Racer and the KFC mobile.
Some of the creations and creators are pictured below.

Swimming sports
Room 12, along with the rest of Broadgreen Intermediate, enjoyed a fun day of competing and supporting Isel House at the School Swimming Sports March 6.
Zac managed to find three different purple outfits for the occasion. There were some great swims from many people in the class, with Erika and Jon Marni making the Inter-school Swimming Sports team and Ryan H representing the school at the Novelty Swimming Sports.

Whenua Iti team building trip
Room 12 ventured out to Whenua Iti on March 1 for a day of testing our limits, learning more about ourselves and our classmates, and encouraging others.
We were hoisted into the air on the Flying Kiwi or Kiore, jumped off a platform onto the trapeze and scaled the poles to jump across the broken bridge and along the beam.
Some pushed themselves by simply getting up to the platforms while others used blindfolds to test their limits.
Fun times were had by all and there was great support for classmates.

Study Ladder
All Room 12 students have been signed up to the Study Ladder website. On this site are extra maths activities set by the teacher. There are also other learning activities and games. The more time the students spend on Study Ladder the more rewards they earn towards building their own avatars and rooms, growing their egg and earning certificates. Each student has their own individual sign in and password so they control their own use of the site and the teacher can monitor their activity and success.

Using the class blog
Today we are learning how to make posts on the class blog. We have a generic class log in we can use or our own gmail account if we have one. By adding a comment on this post about what we've enjoyed most in the first few weeks of the school year we will show we know how to contribute to our class blog.

ME Posters
The first work completed in Room 12 this year has been ME Posters. Students have had to create posters that include their name and a picture and tell us something about who they are. The layouts, colours and designs have all been chosen and created individually by each student. The following is a selection of these posters.

Congratulations on being the lucky ones selected for room 12 in 2012. My aim is for our class to be an environment that is fun, supportive and challenging as we continue to develop intellectually, emotionally and physically.
I taught my first year at Broadgreen Intermediate in 2010 having completed the Graduate Diploma in Teaching in 2009 at the University of Auckland. For the previous 10 years I had a career in sports media on radio, television and the internet.
I am a born and raised Nelsonian and live in Stoke with my wife Cheree, four-year-old son Leon and daughter Keira, who will be two in April. Apart from family my interests are playing and watching sport and music.
Family
I look forward to meeting you. You are welcome to see me at any time before or after school to discuss any issues or you can call or email. Meet the teacher evening is another opportunity in week 3 of Term One.
Your child has a school diary for their homework and organisational needs. I will be checking it weekly so they need to have it. You sign this diary once a week to verify that you have seen and checked it. Details of homework and other reminders will also be found on this blog.
Your child needs a hat at school every day as it is part of school policy to wear a hat when outside. Please ensure that this and the rest of their uniform is named.
Blog
This blog will be updated regularly with students' work and pictures from class as well as reminders for homework and other things needed at school. So parents and students can use this site as well as the diary to keep informed about what is happening at school and what is needed from home.
I look forward to a great year.
